The Faculty Exhibition at the Concordia Gallery

The 2023 Art and Design Faculty Exhibition opened last week at the Concordia Gallery. I snapped a few photos with my phone before it was busy:

My 2 larger prints to the right, and 9 smaller prints on the far wall.

Here are few pics of some of the corners of the gallery - I didn't take any photos in the Teaching Gallery, but there's more work in there as well:

I'll take some "real" photos with my "real" camera in the upcoming week or 2, so stop back to see better images that you can enlarge.

1961: John Drysdale Tried to Photograph a Kangaroo...

... but this happened instead:

I can't be certain, but that appears to be a Hasselblad, so I feel a little bad for smirking.

(Oh yes... and I hope he's OK too... but we all know we worry more about our cameras than our own well-being in situations like this.)

Successfully Processing Film

Last week, I posted about handing out 35mm cameras to my Photo I students. Today, we processed film! We had a 100% success rate for these students processing film for the first time. 🎉📷❤️

I love it when the "drying sink" is overflowing!

Passing Out 35mm Cameras

My students are currently shooting a project on 35mm film. So I came to class like this last week ready to hand out cameras to everyone:

Ten cameras. What's extra funny is that I'm wearing the
same shirt as when I handed out cameras last semester.

Wrapping up notes that day in class.

Happy shooting, class!

Fall Semester is Underway!

It was a hot start to the Fall 2023 semester last week. My first day of class at Concordia University was the last in a 5-day stretch of 90+ degree days, so I wore shorts to the first day for the first time ever:

But then my first day at the University of Minnesota the following day was much cooler, so I wore pants as one normally does:

Happy fall 2023!

Italy Trip: Uffizi Gallery

My wife and I got back a week ago from a 10-day anniversary trip to Italy! On the day we left Florence for the coast, we bought early morning tickets for the world famous Uffizi Gallery. Here are some photos:

In the courtyard between the gallery buildings before it opened.

My wife heading up.

Because we were there early, we had many places to ourselves!

"Diptych of Federico da Montefeltro and Battista Sforza" by Piero della Francesca.

"Spring" by Botticelli.

"The Birth of Venus" by Botticelli.

This room was amazing.

Still pretty quiet as we worked our way through.

"The Baptism of Christ" by DaVinci.

"The Madonna of the Goldfinch" by Raphael.

"Tondo Doni" by Michelangelo (his only surviving easel painting).

"Madonna of the Pear" by Durer.

Rembrandt.

"Portrait of a Young Man" by Rembrandt.

The view of the Ponte Vecchio from the Gallery.
(Our hotel was basically attached to Uffizi behind that construction to the right.)

"Judith Beheading Holofernes" by Artemisia Gentileschi.

"Medusa" by Caravaggio. (I didn't realize how convex it was,
and my wife snapped a photo of me inspecting it.)

Selfie on the way out!
