My Artwork Made It Back Home

My piece from the exhibition "Night" at the Center for Fine Art Photography just made the trip back home. Here are my boys trying to figure out this large package:

Unpacking. Here's the piece wrapped in foam core from inside the big box.

Artwork from inside the 2 boxes.

It made the trip just fine with no issues. The piece is still wrapped up because it's heading to Concordia University's Photo Biennial later this week. So stop by that opening if you'd like to see it.

Here are a few installation photos from "Night" at the Center for Fine Art Photography in Fort Collins. Follow that link for some photos, and there are more links at the bottom of that page with more photos from that exhibition if you're interested.

A Few More Photos of 'Night'

The "Night" exhibition at the Center for Fine Art Photography just came down, and Sunshine Divis (a Programs Manager at the CFAP) sent out a few photographs of the exhibition. Here are a few from her:

'Night' at the Center for Fine Art Photography

The opening reception for "Night" at the Center for Fine Art Photography in Fort Collins was Friday night. On Saturday, I stopped back for a portfolio review with the gallery director. After that, I snapped a few photos of the exhibition:

'Night' Opening Reception at the Center for Fine Art Photography in Colorado

Last night, my wife and I enjoyed the opening reception for "Night" at the Center for Fine Art Photography in Fort Collins, Colorado. Here are a few photos from the opening:

A bookcase in the lobby had an enviable collection of photo books.
(As well as some old-school "decorations" on the top.)

The FIRST thing I had to check on when I got to the gallery was to make sure that
my 32" x 41" homemade frame survived the trip. It still had nice and tight joints. Sweet.

A photo that I Instagrammed of my wife and I at the opening.

We had a great/long chat with Brandie (photographer with red hair) and her husband
at the reception. And then Hamdiah (the gallery director) joined us. Lots of laughs.

I had some nice conversations about my work with about a half dozen people - 1 older man taught at Iowa State for years (so we talked about Garrison Keillor and midwest winters), and one couple where the husband worked for Ilford his entire life. Very friendly people and great conversations!

Check back in a few days: I'll have some more photos of the exhibition itself that I made this morning after I had a portfolio review with Hamidah.

Portfolio Prints

I recently printed a lot of work from my "4 a.m." series to take with me to Colorado when I head out there for the opening of the "Night" exhibition at the Center for Fine Art Photography. I'm not bringing all of these prints, but I wanted to print some of them just to see how they looked. Here are some 11" x 17" prints of some older and some newer 4 a.m. work:

Fine tuning a print.

I've never had a formal critique of this series, so I'm excited to be able to meet with the gallery director to get some of her feedback.

Finalizing my Piece for the Upcoming 'Center for Fine Art Photography' Exhibition

I spent some time in my studio this weekend getting my large 4 a.m. piece ready to ship to Colorado. Here are a few pics of the process:

Print on the table, mat board leaning up, frame and plexi in the foreground.

Signed print.

Ready to put on the D-rings and wire.

Complete.

That last photo didn't show the scale of the 31x41 piece that well. Here's a shot my wife took
of me holding the piece, and it lets you get a bit more of the sense of the scale.

I wrapped it in butcher paper, and then loosely "boxed" it in foamcore
to then take to UPS and have them box and ship it.

p.s. Here's a post from March that shows the process of making the frame for this exhibition (as well as 3 more frames).

Upcoming Exhibition in Colorado

I recently got a piece into an exhibition called "NIGHT" at The Center for Fine Art Photography in Fort Collins, CO. I decided to make a larger print for the show. I submitted a file last Monday night to White House Custom Color, and about 40 hours later, this appeared on my front porch:

The 30" x 40" print laid out in my studio. Note the letter-sized test prints to the far right.

A detail photo (dollar bill for scale).

The print held up well at that size (although that's about all the bigger I'd be comfortable making it). I made some frames last week, and just finished them yesterday. More on that soon.
