Interview in "The Oracle" Newspaper

There was a write-up in The Oracle newspaper (a Hamline University publication) about the exhibition that I was a part of earlier this month. I was interviewed at the opening, and I felt like I was tripping over my words. Luckily, this "pull quote" of mine that was part of the article doesn't seem totally incoherent:

Click here for a photo of the article from the printed newspaper, or click here to read it on The Oracle website.

And here are 4 related posts (which are also 4 out of the last 5 posts here on my blog): printing work for the show, prepping work in my studio and classroom, a few photos from the opening reception, and photos of the exhibition.

Photos from the Soeffker Gallery

A few days ago, I stopped by the Soeffker Gallery and made a few photos of the exhibition:

Here are some close-ups of some (not all) of the pieces in the show:

Curt Lund's pieces.

Detail of one of Curt's pieces.

Some paintings by Andrew Wykes.

A downtown St. Paul scene of Andrew's that I really enjoy.

My photos in the corner.

Some public art photographs from my "4 a.m." series.

This wasn't dramatic, but it was something new for me. Of the 50 or so photos I've made exploring public art at 4 a.m., I printed out 15 (seen here) and edited it down to these 9 as I tried to form a little mini-series on the wall. I don't think I've ever shown unframed work in such a "work in progress" manner before. But the gallery director was all for it and gave me a lot of options for hanging. I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out. (Also, here are more of the mural photographs from a post from last year.)

My 2 more "traditionally" framed pieces (with Curt's piece reflected).

Even these 2 pieces were something slightly new for me. I usually prefer more dramatic, angled compositions. But I chose 2 here with more static, centrally focused compositions. I hope no one is too bored by these. The left image is the MN Senate Building reflecting the State Capitol, and the right image is downtown Minneapolis through a hole in a pedestrian bridge. Both are from my "4 a.m." series. And you can see both if you scroll back a bit on my Instagram.

A final shot of my work.

Some of Allison Baker's studies. She also had the large sculptural pieces on the floor as seen in the opening photos.

Some fun cast pieces by Michele Signorino.

Two of the three prints that John-Mark Schlink had in the exhibition.

One final overall view.

Here are a few related posts: opening night at the gallery 1 week ago, prepping my pieces for the exhibition, and more mural work from last year.

Opening Night at the Soeffker Gallery

Friday night was the opening of the Faculty Exhibition at the Soeffker Gallery at Hamline University. Here are a few quick iPhone pics:

I arrived just after the catering truck. Good timing.

It was another snowy night on campus.

People outside the gallery.

My work in the corner. I'll have more on what I was "trying" to do in a later post.

The Soeffker Gallery on Instagram posted a pic similar to my last one the day after the opening.

I'll photograph the entire show and post those photos when I get to it. (And a bit more about the "new" things I was trying with my work.) Check back!
