Photos from the Wells Art Expo

I was asked to be part of the "Wells Art Expo" that highlighted art made by current or former residents of my hometown. This was in conjunction of the city's 150th anniversary. There was something about it on Explore Minnesota, as well as an interview with 2 of the founders of the event on KEYC TV in Mankato. I was thrilled my hometown was able to put on such a display of the arts!

I wasn't able to attend, but here are some photos that were sent my way of the set up and of the event itself:

CVA Photo Lab Memory

Six years ago today, the CVA Photo Lab announced it's closing schedule. I managed those labs (large B&W lab, a color lab, a film processing lab, an alternative processes lab, and a digital lab) and taught in the Photo dept and Foundation dept when CVA announced it was closing.

Sad day indeed.

Interview in "The Oracle" Newspaper

There was a write-up in The Oracle newspaper (a Hamline University publication) about the exhibition that I was a part of earlier this month. I was interviewed at the opening, and I felt like I was tripping over my words. Luckily, this "pull quote" of mine that was part of the article doesn't seem totally incoherent:

Some public art photographs from my "4 a.m." series.

This wasn't dramatic, but it was something new for me. Of the 50 or so photos I've made exploring public art at 4 a.m., I printed out 15 (seen here) and edited it down to these 9 as I tried to form a little mini-series on the wall. I don't think I've ever shown unframed work in such a "work in progress" manner before. But the gallery director was all for it and gave me a lot of options for hanging. I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out. (Also, here are more of the mural photographs from a post from last year.)

My 2 more "traditionally" framed pieces (with Curt's piece reflected).

Even these 2 pieces were something slightly new for me. I usually prefer more dramatic, angled compositions. But I chose 2 here with more static, centrally focused compositions. I hope no one is too bored by these. The left image is the MN Senate Building reflecting the State Capitol, and the right image is downtown Minneapolis through a hole in a pedestrian bridge. Both are from my "4 a.m." series. And you can see both if you scroll back a bit on my Instagram.
